Spring Bucket List ♥

Hello Friends! Happy April! I hope you all had a nice Easter last weekend.  We hosted a brunch at our house in the morning for Rob's family and then went to my parents house later in the day for dinner with my family.  It was quite busy, but great seeing everyone!

John had fun looking for eggs.  Here he is on Good Friday coloring them at my parents house.  We did four dozen and only had 3 causalities.  That's pretty good!  My Day hid the eggs and can you believe 12 adults (and one John) still could not find 3 eggs?  By the end of the night we all  gave up.  The Easter Bunny got us again! LOL

The other day my friend Patricia mentioned on Instagram that she was Spring cleaning.  It got me thinking of all the things that I would like to do this Spring – specifically all the things I need to clean! When I was little I used to help my mom clean Spring clean.  I loved taking china out of the curio cabinets and washing the figurines by hand. I would Windex the glass and take all the crystal pieces off the chandelier and soak them in the sink.

{Sometimes I would hold them up to my ears and pretend they were earrings}

I loved dusting  the furniture with Lemon Pledge until it was slippery….remember that smell – soooo good!

We used to have a shadow box built into the wall along the stairs. It had a mirror as the back and several little shelves in it. It was my job to make sure it sparkled. Actually I think I gave myself that job just because I loved it so much.  Even now I can remember every little milk glass bottle and porcelain dish on that shadow box because I took care of it.

If only I still had all that energy!

The thought of Spring cleaning brought back those memories and suddenly motivated me to make a Spring Bucket List.  Last night I walked around my house with a pad of paper and wrote down all the things that I would like to accomplish over the next two months.  Don’t worry, I also listed some “outside of the house” stuff too.

We had an Easter brunch at our house last Sunday.  It was a nice opportunity for me to set the table pretty and use my fancy dishes.  I love my China but sadly don’t use it as much as I would like to. When I was putting the dishes away I noticed the inside is quite dusty.
How does dust get inside the china cabinet is what I want to know.
But it’s there, along with tons of finger prints.  First on my list is take all the dishes out and clean the mirror and glass.  While I’m doing that I can soak the china in the sink.  This is a Saturday morning project just waiting to happen.
I’ll light a candle, make myself some tea and put an old movie on in the background.

How does the dust get in there???

Don’t look too closely at this picture or you will see the thick layer of dust covering this beautiful chandelier.  I’m sure I’ve talked about my love for this fixture before.  It came from my parent’s house (given to them as a wedding present) and used to hang in our dining room.  Now it hangs in my foyer.  The problem is I need a ladder to get up to it which makes cleaning it an ordeal.  I have to lay towels on the floor of the foyer just in case if I drop something it won’t shatter (which has happened before).  I have to plan on a few hours (alone) for this.  It’s a big undertaking but definitely worth the sparkle.
I'll definitely need coffee and some Frank Sinatra for this….

I'm glad you can't see the cobwebs :)

I also have cabinets, a closet of death, and a spice rack that needs to be organized.

Do you ever find yourself looking for a spice and you either have three of them or none at all? That’s what happens when you have a spice rack that looks like this.

It drives me crazy!

Here’s another shelf that also needs some lovin’. Each cup has to be taken down and hand washed.  The winter heat has created a thick layer of dust on this shelf too.
Where is Hazel when I need her?

Well, after all that work I don’t intend to spend my whole spring cleaning the house.  I’m anxious for the nice weather so I can get outside and start riding my bike again.  I had an offer go riding a few weeks ago with a friends but it ended up being too cold. There is a park close to my house that I have never biked in but have heard great things about.  I’m excited to see what this one is all about.  Exploring new places in your own town is fun!  This could also be a good place to go walking if I don’t feel like going to the beach.

I have a stockpile of recipes that I’m excited to make this Spring.  I want to try some new smoothie recipes and make an asparagus tart for my Dad.  I owe a few friends letters (I haven’t forgotten about you : )  and I promised John that over his Spring vacation we could go for a picnic.

So in a nutshell, here’s my

2016 Spring Bucket List:

Cleaning and organizing: china cabinet, chandelier, tea cup shelf, spice rack, pantry, linen closet, fill bags of clothes that don’t fit to be donated (ours and John’s).

 "The closet of death"

Cooking: make smoothies, make an asparagus tart, make cinnamon rolls, use my bread machine, experiment with new dinner recipes, have a brunch (with mimosas!)

Fun: Explore Bear Cove Park, start bike riding, walking, write letters, go on picnic with John, walk through the Boston Public Garden with Rob, bring back family game night once a week (been meaning to do that for a while), plan for our Disney trip in June, read Susan Branch’s new book: Martha’s Vineyard, Isle of Dreams which I preordered and will hopefully be in my pretty little hands by the second week in April! Cannot wait for that!!!!

Wow, I have a lot to do.  Reading it back I have a nice balance of work and fun!  What’s on your Spring bucket list?

I would love to hear it.

I actually have a post about why I don't do that anymore going up tomorrow!
I used to. But as I got older, I changed perspective on certain things.
