Wednesday Wisdom: cursive writing & magazines ♥

Hello lovely Friends!  Happy Wednesday!

The sun is shining today after three days of heavy, heavy rain and I feel like October is smiling on us today.

Do you want to know something very random that I've been thinking about?  I think it's so very sad that kids aren't taught cursive writing anymore. It suddenly dawned on me (for reasons unknown!) that the generation after John will never know how to properly write cursive and it's basically become obsolete.  He was taught in first and second grade how to write the alphabet and sign his name, then it stopped.  The kids were given computers and that was the end of that. These days everything is electronic and at the doctor's office or CVS we sign our names on a pad with our finger.  Am I the only one who thinks this is sad.  Technology is a great thing I know, but somewhere along the way we've lost our charm.
Kids aren't even given schoolbooks anymore because everything is downloaded on a device.  We broke our backs walking home with book bags that weighed a ton and you know what?  We didn't have to worry about Wi-Fi or low battery or technical difficulties. And it was so fun to see whose name was written in the book, so you knew who had it before you : ) It all seemed so much simpler.  And with the disappearance of cursive something inside me feels like we're going backwards instead of forwards. I guess I'm a dinosaur, but these are the things I ponder.  My Dad told me that at some point the penny is going to disappear from existence as well.  WHAT? Are you telling me my grandchildren will never know cursive wiring or know what a penny is?! I can't even fathom it.

All I can say is that I'm thankful I grew up in a world with cursive writing, heavy book bags, and pennies. Because those things are important.

And while we're on the subject of my never-ending nostalgia, did you know that you can borrow magazines from the library? I didn't either until just recently. Last week I accidentally wandered over to that section and found all my old favorites that I hadn't seen in ages.  Gosh I love the library!

I used to love magazines!! One of the best parts of going to any appointment was the waiting room with all the magazines!  Once we got phones no one seemed to care about them anymore and once Covid hit they disappeared from waiting rooms entirely. Have you even been to a doctor appointment and didn't have your phone? I have and it's terrible just sitting there with no People or Us Weekly to flip through like in the old days.

The other thing is magazines are expensive now. One can cost up to $10 and that's just crazy. Probably because they want to us read them online.  But doesn't that defeat the whole purpose?  It's so satisfying to flip through a good magazine!!!

And thanks to my local library, I can!

And that's all I have to say about that!

Thank you for listening to my rant : )

Have a great Wednesday, friends!  xx

Wednesday Wisdom ♥

Hello my fellow FALL loving friends.  Happy Wednesday!

How are things in your part of the world?  We've had rain and fog for the last few days.  It's a little bit warmer than usual and I'm not loving it.  It makes me tired and have low energy, so I haven't been very productive this week.  To bring up my spirits I've been treating myself to tea time in the afternoon.  I usually have tea anyway, but if I call it "tea time" that's an excuse to use a teapot and a fancier cup.  It's all in the details!  The Hallmark Channel has started it's 24 hour countdown to Christmas movies, and that pairs perfectly with my "tea time".  Hallmark makes me happy. I've probably seen every Christmas movie ten times over, but I don't care.  I love them all.  If my life were ever made into a movie I would want it to be a Hallmark movie starring Lacy Chabert.

Hope and dreams, my friends...hopes and dreams!

(my favorite meme ever! : )

Anyhoo, I just finished prepping dinner for tonight which is chicken pot pie.  I've been craving it all week! It's one of my all time favorites!  I've cleaned everything up so all that's left is to pop it in the oven and let it bake (while I have tea time...lol).

Do you like my cute pumpkin baking dish?  I picked it up at Home Goods last Fall.  I'm obsessed with it.  I don't always have things to "bake" in it but it will find it's way to our table anyway - with salad, rolls, cobbler, pretty much anything I can think of.  It's the little things that make our hearts happy, right?  I think so too

Want to know what I've been thinking about lately?

Take a read of these words of wisdom.  Social media can be an ugly place sometimes, but every once in a while when I scrolling I find a little gem that speaks to me.  I save them to my camera roll so I can reflect on them later.

  I work on this daily

This IS me.

Yes!

Amen

I snapped this picture the other morning (early) after dropping John off at school.  The sun was reflecting the leaves so beautifully.  I had to stop and take it all in.  I always say I don't consider myself a morning person, but it's the mornings where I find the most beauty in things.

It also reminds me that Fall is fleeting.  October is nearly over already.  This is when time really starts to speed up.  Let's take it down a notch, shall we?

Wishing you all a wonderful, cozy week.  I'm off to pop my chicken pot pie in the oven.

Can't wait for dinner tonight : )

Have a lovely day, my friends! I'll be around visiting your blogs soon!

Wednesday Thoughts ♥

Hello Friends!

Here is a random thought I wanted to share for anyone that needs it.

Sometimes when I long for the past I think about this and I suddenly feel happy again.

Keep going.  Through all the chaos, life can be beautiful.  We just have to wait for it.

What a wonderful thought.

Wednesday Thoughts ♥

Hello Friends!

I woke up this morning not feeling well.  It started off as a no-good-awful-day.  You know the type.  I decided to bring my work outside and not miss out on the beautiful fall like weather.

A few deep breaths and I'm suddenly on the right track to feeling better.  There is so much sadness in the world right now, I must remember to appreciate the little moments and this is one of them.

I'm blessed to be able to work from home and enjoy this lovely day...with coffee and sunshine.

I think I'll stay here awhile.

Happy Wednesday my friends!  I hope you find a little bit of joy somewhere.  If not, go outside and look for it.  It works.  Trust me

Wednesday wisdom ♥

Yes indeed  ♥

The older I get the more I realize how important it is to stop and appreciate the simple things in life.

For it is the simplest things that truly make me happy.

Pretty sweet smelling flowers.

A good cup of coffee on a warm spring morning.

The strawberry french toast I had for dinner last night (recipe here).  Sooooo good!!! : )

And this face, who I'm so thankful that I can see and watch grow everyday.

Throw in a batch of these chocolate dipped frozen bananas and life is good ♥
I just made another batch of these last night and they are amazing!! (recipe here)

I'm so grateful for all of you! In this crazy world we live in it's so nice to know that we have this space to visit and share our lives. There is more good than bad in this world.

You are proof of that ♥

And that's it for today's Wednesday wisdom!  Appreciate the simple things : )

Happy Wednesday! The weather is beautiful here this week.  I'm looking forward to a nice long weekend.  We will no doubt be cooking on the grill and ice cream sandwiches will be involved.  Can't wait!

See you Friday! xo
