Vintage Coffee Ads from the 1950's ♥

Good Monday Moring my dear friends! ♥

How was your weekend? We had another rainy one (I think that makes 3 in row) so I'm especially happy to see some spring sunshine today.  The upside to all this rain is my neighborhood is full of blooming forsythias and that tells me spring is definitely here.  We attended a beautiful Palm Sunday mass yesterday and then it was home to drink hot coffee and park it on the couch for the afternoon.  I usually like to do things around the house on Sundays but sometimes my body says "nope, not today!" and that's okay too.  

While relaxing, I had some fun going down a Pinterest rabbit hole.  Don't you just LOVE Pinterest?  Truly, anything I'm looking for is there! It's amazing.

Anyway, I love vintage ads from the 1950's. I found some fun coffee ones that I'd like to share with you today.  Looking at these you can clearly see how times have changed.  They all made me laugh and I feel so deeply in my soul that I was born in the wrong era! 

For example:

"This new coffee flavor makes early morning angels. It turns BEARS into DEARS... It's a wonderful spirit-lifting success"

Sadly, advertising is not like this anymore, however I have never heard anything so relatable in my entire life.  

See what I mean? Me. Wrong era. 

"Don't blame the coffee pot!"

Don't blame the coffee pot Lorraine...it's your coffee, it's terrible.  Time to switch brands! 

(**but your robe is fabulous!**)

 

"Guests will sing its praises, your family will want it for their regular every-meal coffee" 

I want guests to sing praises for my coffee!  The last line reads 

"Economical too - costs you only about 1 cent a cup!" 

Wow.

"Good things happen over coffee.." 

"There's no fence in town refreshing coffee can't tear down"

That's the power of iced coffee for ya.  I've always thought so. 

This all-American family planned baby's 1st birthday over after dinner coffee and now their dreams have come true.  All thanks to the coffee.  Awe....how sweet. 

"Give yourself a coffee-break!"

I believe in coffee breaks.  Sadly, this is not what it looks like in my office.  

This one really told a story:

The bended knee may be out of date

And the high laced shoes may be done of late

But the boy and the girl and the coffee stay

As when Pop found Mom just yesterday.

For coffee is always on the scene...

Lending its warmth to each couple's dream

And over some coffee how often do

The dreams of the warmest hearts come true!

So, did mom and dad get engaged one day after their first meeting? That seems a bit racy for back in the day.  

Apparently good things really do happen over coffee! 

But not for poor little Johnny.  Dad cut the football game short because mom made pot of coffee.  He's literally sprinting in the house.  Better luck next time Johnny.  

Did they offer him some or is that hot chocolate in his cup? 

This may be my most favorite of all. 

"Husband Pleasing Coffee"

"Get a good man.  Get him good coffee."

Hmmm...I must switch to this brand!  LOL 

"Mmm! Nothing smells as good as coffee!"

"What a break for Jim.  A delicious cup or two of fragrant, steaming coffee and he'll tackle mid-year cramming like nobody's business.  Ah, the aroma...filling the room and making Jim's mouth water!"

Let's be real here.  Jim is full of caffeine and will be up for days!  Mid-terms? Not a problem if mom keeps the coffee brewing! It's not the smell that's keeping him going! 

 

"Give yourself a coffee-stop - stay alert and stay alive!" 

Nowadays we drive up to the window but back then they brought the coffee right to you.  They better be planning on staying awhile.  I don't think to-go cups were invented yet! 

But how lovely does this scene look?  I'm swooning ♥

All this coffee talk and now I want one.  I'm afraid I'm a bit underdressed so I think I may need to put on my pearls first.  I hope these ads made you smile today!

Yesterday heaven gained one of Hollywood's brightest stars. 

Doris Day ♥

One of my all time favorites, I've loved her ever since I was a little girl saw her and Rock Hudson in Pillow Talk on TV one Saturday afternoon.  I thought she was so beautiful and funny and I loved how she sang.  I grew up listening to "Everybody Loves a Lover" and "Secret Love". "Que Sera Sera" became my life's motto.

To this day I still love those songs and whenever I hear her voice it makes me happy.  She was a role model to me and so many others.  Lover of humans, protector of animals, and might I add fashion inspiration : )  

Throughout my life I've always dreamed of being a  modern day Doris Day.

I will continue that dream ♥

Hello Lovely Friends!

Tonight I thought it would be fun to take a look at some classic VINTAGE holiday looks from Hollywood in the 1940's & 1950's. 

 

I love looking back at this time period, especially the clothes, hair, and makeup.  Its fun to see old publicity shots of the era, holiday themed.  I mean, don't we all wear pink cocktail gowns to decorate the Christmas tree?

Well, tomorrow is Friday and it's the last weekend before Christmas! Can you believe it?

I have the day off and I'm planning on baking cookies so stay tuned for a yummy cookie recipe . It's going to rain all day so it will be a perfect day to bake.

 

Right now I'm off to make my nightly tea and get into bed.  I want to sleep extra soundly tonight so chamomile it is! I like mine with milk & honey ♥

Fashion inspiration: 1950's edition ♥

I interrupt my regular scheduled programing for a bit of fashion inspiration. Mainly because...I need it.  Here's my situation.  If there is one thing I'm most self conscious about, it's my clothes. Which is crazy right, because out of all things to be self conscious about clothes are something I can control.  Something I can choose.  But the thing is, I hate clothes shopping. I really hate it.  Let me loose in a kitchen store and I'm happy as a bee.  But clothes? Help.  I hate trying things on and I always seem to make the wrong choices.  Which I don't realize until....after I've worn the outfit. Ugh. 

I'm ok in the cold weather months.  I can get away with a pair of black dress pants (trousers? do people say slacks anymore?) and a comfy sweater or cardigan.  I'm in heaven.  But come summertime, I'm doomed.  I don't enjoy wearing shorts, only if absolutely necessary. I mostly wear capris and sometimes dresses if I can find one that looks decent on me.  I guess I just don't like the styles these days.  Take me back to the 1950's and I would fit right in.  The problem is you don't see too many poodle skirts at Khols these days.  Such a shame :)

You have to understand that I was born in the 70's, grew up in the 80's, and spent many important fashion years (including my wedding!) in the 90's.  It's been tough.  Those were hard years.  At least for me. Hard, acid wash jean, permed hair in a banana clip, electric blue eyeliner, jelly bracelet years.  Past 1999, forget it.  I really don't know what's going on.  I've been in the dark since them.  Actually, I've been in my pajamas since them.  It's where I'm most comfy. 

I wish I could just go back in time. 

 

 I mean look at this.....

Everything is perfect, yet looks effortless.  The dresses, the pumps, the gloves! The matching purses and pearl earrings!  I need this in my life ♥

I'll take one of each! A look for every day of the week ♥

If I had one of these pretty dresses to pick from maybe I wouldn't be so fashion impaired. 

 

Oh well. I'll stick to my GAP neutrals, which I do love, but don't ask me to stray from that because that's when things go wrong.  I'll be trolling vintage/thrift shops this summer in hopes of finding my perfect outfit.  It's got to be out there somewhere! ♥

I ♥ aprons!

Hello! Welcome to another Friday! Yippeeee! 

Things have been quite busy this week, but I'm happy to say all is well.  Rob went back to work today after being home a week, sick with the flu.  I'm so happy he's better and things are getting back to normal.  My mom also came home from the hospital on Monday and is doing remarkably well.

We had a lovely Valentines Day and a blessed Ash Wednesday and overall I'm feeling good. 

It must be all the pretty store Valentines Day decorations! 

How can you not smile when you see displays like this : ) 

I thought for today I would do something different and tell you about a little collection I have ....

A few weeks ago I posted a picture of myself on Instagram wearing one of my favorite aprons.  After reading your comments I discovered that many of you also share a love for aprons!  I've been collecting them for years.  I have them in all shapes, sizes, and colors ♥ 

 I thought it would be fun to show you a few more of my favorite ones!  

I layed them out of my bed for you to see.  Please excuse the wrinkles.  

I wash them every now and again, but no way am I ironing an apron : ) 

Here's the one I posted on IG, with a caption that said "channeling my inner 50's housewife" because that's how I feel when I wear it.  

My mother made this one for me a few years ago.  I picked out all the fabric and she put it together.  

I love the ruffles! 

This is one of my newest ones.  It was sent to me by my lovely and talented Instagram friend Marge (thisprimnannyof3) as a housewarming gift when I moved last fall.  She made it for me!  

Isn't it darling? I love it! ♥ 

This one is extra special to me because it not only says Paris, it came from Paris! 

My friends Dave and Lisa brought it back for me as a souvenir from their trip to France a few years ago. 

I feel very chic when I wear it! It's my Julia Child apron! : ) 

And then there is this one...I call it my Lucy apron because of the heart! 

 I picked this up for myself in December while I was Christmas shopping! I feel like I need to wear a bun in my hair and bake a cake when I wear it.  

This is the exact deal Rob and I have.  I cook and he cleans.  It works! 

And there you have it folks.  Clearly I'm not hard to please ♥ 

I keep all my aprons hanging on a hook inside my pantry, so they are very easy to get to. 

I wear one every night while I'm making dinner.  

Another clue that I am slowly morphing into a 1950's sitcom mom!
